Participants’ Rights

  1. You have the right not to participate in a research study.
  2. There is absolutely no obligation that you have to become a research participant. Without written permission (which is called an “informed consent form”), research will not be performed or administered with you as a potential research participant. This consent form will be signed and dated by you (research participant) if you decide that a research study is the right match for you. The goal of the informed consent form is to make you aware of any events or occurrences that will/could happen to you as a research participant. These events or occurrences will only happen if you decide to become a research participant. As a research participant, you do not give up any legal rights that you have once you have signed the informed consent form.

  3. You have the right to a copy of the informed consent form.
  4. A copy of the informed consent form will be given to you when an informed consent form is required.

  5. You may end your participation in any part of the research study at any time.
  6. As a research participant, you do have the right to not continue the study. You may stop any part of the research study whenever you like. Stopping a research study can happen at any time during the research study you feel you would like to stop. You have no legal responsibility to continue a research study if you do not want to. You will not lose any medical care or benefits of the medical care if you decide to end the research study.

  7. You have the right to know the goals of a research study.
  8. You can ask at any time to be informed of the objective of the research study you are being asked to participate in.

  9. You have a right to know the risks and/or benefits involved in participating in a research study.
  10. As a research participant, you have the right to ask if there are any risks to you and if there are any direct benefits to you from being a part of the research study.

  11. You have the right to know about any other treatments or options available to you if you choose not to participate in a research study.
  12. You have the right to be told about any and all medical options that can be made available to you if you decide that a research study might not be the best option for you. There are possibly better options that can be made available to you other than a research study and as a patient, it is your right to be fully informed regarding these other options.

  13. A t any time (before, during or at the end of a research study), you may ask any questions

    you have about the research you are being asked to participate in.

  14. Your questions should be answered by the persons who are asking you to participate in the research study. If you feel that the questions have not been fully answered to satisfy your needs, then you may either ask again or choose not to participate in the research study.

  15. You have the right to expect that your information will be kept private
  16. Your medical information will be held private by those who are conducting the research study.

  17. If any injury, hurt, or harm happens while in a research study, you do have the right to receive treatment.
  18. If you become injured or harmed while on a research study, you do have the right to receive medical treatment.

  19. You have the right to be told of all of the research procedures that will take place during a research study.
  20. At any time, you have the right to ask what procedures will take place to you while participating in the research study.

  21. You have the right to seek more information on participating in a research study.
